A tragic multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 95 southbound claimed the life of a young driver Sunday night in Caroline County.
According to Virginia State Police, the crash occurred around 8:30 p.m. on October 5, 2025, near the 110-mile marker. The initial collision involved a 2010 Chevrolet sedan and a 2017 Ford sedan, leaving both vehicles disabled in the roadway. Moments later, a 2018 Freightliner tractor-trailer traveling south was unable to avoid the wreckage and struck the Chevrolet from behind.
The driver of the Chevrolet, 21-year-old Zane P. Jackson, sustained critical injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital, where he later died. Two teenage passengers riding in the Chevrolet were also taken to the hospital with serious injuries.
The driver of the Freightliner and the Ford sedan were not reported injured. Investigators say all involved were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash.
Authorities closed several southbound lanes for hours while State Police Crash Reconstruction Teams investigated the scene and cleared debris.
The incident remains under active investigation as troopers work to determine the sequence of events leading to the fatal collision.
