A horrifying tragedy unfolded Wednesday afternoon in San Francisco’s Westwood Park neighborhood, where four family members — believed to include two children — were found dead inside a home on the 900 block of Monterey Boulevard. Authorities are investigating the case as a possible murder-suicide.
According to the San Francisco Police Department (SFPD), officers and firefighters responded to a call for medical aid at approximately 1:25 p.m. after a concerned relative requested a welfare check at the residence. Upon arrival, emergency crews discovered the bodies of four people — described by sources as a husband, wife, and their two young children, reportedly ages 8 and 10.
Discovered by a Family Member
Law enforcement sources told local media that another family member made the grisly discovery, believed to be the brother of the husband, who had been unable to reach his relatives and called the police. When officers entered the home, they found all four victims unresponsive. Despite attempts to render aid, they were pronounced dead at the scene.
SFPD and San Francisco Fire Department (SFFD) officials have not yet confirmed the victims’ identities, ages, or the exact cause of death. However, investigators said that no additional individuals were found inside the home, and there is no ongoing threat to the public.
Investigation Underway
The San Francisco Police Homicide Detail has taken over the investigation, with officers canvassing the neighborhood and securing the property. Detectives are currently collecting evidence from the scene, and forensic teams are expected to assist the San Francisco Medical Examiner’s Office in determining the cause and manner of death for each family member.
Authorities are treating the case as a murder-suicide, though they have not confirmed who among the victims may have been responsible.
“This is a deeply tragic and sensitive situation,” an SFPD spokesperson said. “We are working carefully to gather all facts and ensure that next of kin are notified before releasing any further details.”
A Quiet Neighborhood Shaken
Residents of Westwood Park, a quiet, family-oriented neighborhood near City College of San Francisco, were left stunned by the news. Neighbors described the victims as a friendly and private family who had only recently moved into the home.
Property records show that the four-bedroom home at 930 Monterey Boulevard had recently changed hands. Online real estate listings indicate the property was previously owned by Thomas “T.R.” Ocheltree and Paula Truong, a married couple with two children, who reportedly lived there for several years before facing financial hardship.
According to Redfin, the house was purchased in 2014 for $1.35 million. Public auction records reveal that the property went into foreclosure in early 2024, after the owners defaulted on their mortgage. It was later acquired by a lender nine months later.
It is unclear if the deceased family were the same owners or new occupants who had recently moved in following the foreclosure.
Community Response
By late Wednesday evening, the home remained cordoned off with police tape as investigators continued processing the scene. Several neighbors gathered nearby, some leaving flowers and candles on the sidewalk in memory of the victims.
“This is heartbreaking,” said one neighbor, who declined to be named. “You never expect something like this in such a peaceful neighborhood. My heart breaks for those kids.”
City officials said grief counseling and crisis resources would be made available for affected community members once more information is released.
Ongoing Updates
Authorities have not released any official statement about the cause of death, potential motive, or timeline of events. The San Francisco Medical Examiner’s Office will conduct autopsies and formally identify the victims in the coming days.
SFPD is urging anyone with information related to the case to contact the department’s Tip Line at (415) 575-4444 or text a tip to TIP411, beginning the message with “SFPD.”
This is a developing story and will be updated as new information becomes available.
