A man was found dead from a gunshot wound to the head outside a business on the city’s West Side early Thursday morning, according to San Antonio police.

Officers responded to reports of a shooting just before 3:00 a.m. in the 1200 block of Historic Old Highway 90 near Acme Road. When they arrived, they discovered 36-year-old Ricky Contreras Hernandez lying on the ground in front of the store.

Emergency medical services pronounced Hernandez dead at the scene.

A vehicle believed to belong to the victim was found nearby with multiple bullet holes in the windshield, investigators said. Police believe the shooting occurred in or around the vehicle, though the exact circumstances remain under investigation.

At this time, no arrests have been made, and police said they currently have no suspect information. Detectives are reviewing surveillance footage from the business and surrounding area in hopes of identifying those involved.

Hernandez was a graduate of John F. Kennedy High School in San Antonio, and news of his death has deeply saddened those who knew him.
