Toronto Police are investigating a stabbing incident that left one person seriously injured on Wednesday evening near Yonge and College Streets, prompting a heavy police response and temporary disruption to subway service at College Station.
Police initially received reports of gunshots in the College Park area shortly after 6:30 p.m. However, when officers arrived on scene, they found no evidence of gunfire. Instead, they located a stabbing victim on the platform level of College Station on Line 1 of the TTC.
According to investigators, it appears the stabbing occurred off TTC property, and the victim fled into the station after being wounded.
Toronto Paramedic Services transported the victim to hospital via an emergency run. The individual is reported to be in serious but non-life-threatening condition.
โPolice are on scene investigating,โ Toronto Police Operations said in an update on X (formerly Twitter). โAny witnesses are asked to contact 52 Division at 416-808-5200. No evidence of gunfire has been located at this time.โ
TTC Service Impact
Due to the active police investigation, the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) temporarily suspended service at College Station.
At approximately 7:20 p.m., TTC officials posted a service alert stating:
โLine 1 Yonge-University: Trains are not stopping at College Station due to police activity.โ
Subway trains continued to operate through the area but bypassed the station until police cleared the scene.
Ongoing Investigation
Police have not released details about a possible suspect or motive, and no arrests have been confirmed as of Wednesday evening. Officers are reviewing surveillance footage and interviewing witnesses in the area.
Authorities are urging anyone who may have seen the incident or has dashcam or cellphone video from Yonge Street and College Street around the time of the stabbing to come forward.
Residents and commuters are asked to avoid the area as the investigation continues.
